MENTOR  OPPORTUNITIES

We are so grateful that you have considered assisting Lift Career Resource Center in enhancing the lives of foster care youth who are transitioning out of the foster care system. On behalf of LIFT Career Resource Center, we would like to thank you for taking the time to consider becoming a Mentor and showing an interest in working with us to enhance the lives of transitioning foster care youth.

OVERVIEW OF PROGRAM

LIFT Career Resource Center is a non-profit business that provides career services and community resources to at-risk youth, 18 to 25 years of age, who have transitioned or “aged out” out of the foster care system.  Through LIFT’s 12 month program, LIFT Mentors will assist LIFT Mentees in prevention through intervention by providing them with the necessary tools including life skills, career services, and community resources to live productive and fulfilling lives.

In this application process, the Mentor position will require that you participate in a comprehensive Best Practices Training Program where LIFT policies, procedures, and guidelines will be established. Since you may be working young adults, you will be required to take a criminal background check, and as part of the final selection process, you will be interviewed by LIFT’s executive staff.

A Mentor will serve as a positive role model and be responsible for taking the lead in supporting a young person through an ongoing one-on-one relationship to help build self-esteem, motivate, and assist foster care youth at maximizing their potential in all areas of life.  Primarily the role of a Mentor will be to assist young adults from 18 to 25 years of age in successfully transition from foster care to independent living by setting goals and working toward accomplishing them.  LIFT Mentors will meet with LIFT Mentees at least once a week for a two-hour session to work on accomplishing goals, ensuring Mentees receive training modules in life skills, education, career mapping, job placement, assist with providing resources and/or referrals for immediate job placement, housing, and other life necessities. Mentors are asked to commit to serving as a mentor for one year time period.
